At the 2016 New York International Auto Show, Honda announced the GT3 version of the NSX, which will begin racing in 2017. During its first racing season in 2017, the NSX GT3 earned its first GTD class victory in the IMSA SportsCar Championship at Belle Isle, followed by another victory in the next round of the championship, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. It also won the Utah round of the Pirelli World Challenge. For the following year, in 2018, the car finished second in the IMSA GTD championship with two victories. It debuted in the Japanese Super GT Series, achieving a podium in Autopolis.
